This photo immediately struck me as a very poetic and artistic representation of life and the choices we have to make, as well as the strength required to venture into the unknown and remembers me of the moment right before you wake up, when you are still sleeping and yet fully aware of everything going on around you. It also makes me think of a Scottish Gaelic word, cianalas describing a certain feeling of longing, loneliness and homesickness, and this adds to the beauty of this photography.

The lines of the waves are what strikes me the most, forming a v, or an arrow pointing towards a world of undiscovered mysteries, and the choice not to use colours adds to the beauty of this photography. I feel confident that this picture would have been far from as stunning as it is, had it been shot in colour, or if Markus had been placed in the middle of the picture.

Overall, I think this is a wonderful shot, and despite having seen similar takes on the same motif I truly think this is a unique version worth a lot of praise.
